Transplanted  (2019)

This creative project is a video game created using stop motion animation and the Unity game engine. The objective of the game is to take care of a recently received plant which motivates the player character, Elaine, to finish unpacking boxes from when she moved into her apartment. The game play mechanics are simplified, allowing for ease of play. The goal is not just about unpacking boxes and cleaning a home; through taking care of a plant, Elaine begins to take care of herself, transforming from lethargic depression to sentimental optimism.

Mirroring the four primary stages of personal change, Elaine cleans four rooms in her home: her bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchen. Each room acts as a glimpse into who this character is and from where she has come. The game plays as a quick, meditative passage through a character’s personal landscape. As each player slowly begins unpacking Elaine’s personal belongings, they are invited into the sentimental values of often innocuous items. The game is a meditation on personal motivation, and overcoming seemingly monumental tasks, one step at a time.

Transplanted was featured in the 2019 Big Indie Pitch at the Game Developer's Conference and is available free to play via the Itch.io game platform. Below are a trailer and images from the creation process of making the game.
